FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Three people have been arrested in a scheme to smuggle meth inside the Franklin County Detention Center using a toilet plunger.
Richard Sand, Brenda Sowell, and Cora Bass were all arrested for the crime. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office say that Sand and the two female inmates, Sowell and Bass, conspired together to bring drugs into the jail.
Deputies say that Sand came into the facility to visit an inmate. During the visit, Sand used the bathroom.
That's when deputies say he left a single OxyContin pill and methamphetamine inside of a toilet plunger. Deputies say one of the women was responsible for cleaning the bathrooms and was able to retrieve the drugs Sand left behind.
Eventually, information about the incident made its way to detention officers and both inmates were tested for illegal drugs. Both women tested positive for meth.
Sand and Sowell were charged with introduction of a contraband into a correctional faculty, 3rd degree felony. Sand was also charged with violation of probation, 3rd degree felony.
