The Nation's Weather for Thursday, January 31, 2019
—————
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Brutally cold air and biting winds gripping the Northeast
today will rival the Arctic blast from last week as the
harshest of the winter. As the deep freeze remains across
the Midwest as well, bands of snow and squalls will stream
downwind of the Great Lakes. The most intense snowfall is
expected off Lake Ontario. Meanwhile, an Alberta Clipper
will cause a band of nuisance snow to move from the eastern
Dakotas to northern Illinois. West of the clipper,
temperatures will increase significantly across the northern
High Plains. Dry weather will continue to hold across most
of the West with a mild afternoon in the Pacific Northwest.
However, rain will spread from Central to Southern
California.
