NATIONAL SUMMARY
A major winter storm will bring heavy snow from the Upper
Midwest to part of New England today. Local amounts topping
a foot are forecast. Drenching rain will lead to incidents
of flooding from the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic region to
the central Gulf Coast with lesser showers over the
southeastern corner of the nation. A zone of heavy ice is in
store from part of the central Great Lakes to the central
Appalachians and interior Northeast. Enough ice can accrue
to cause widespread power outages in some locations. Dry air
will sweep in behind the storm over the Plains. The latest
storm from the Pacific will hammer the Northwest with rain
along the Oregon coast and heavy snow over much of
Washington and interior Oregon to western Montana. Much of
the Southwest can expect sunshine.
