NATIONAL SUMMARY

Areas from the northern Plains to the Great Lakes and the

Northeast can expect dry and chilly conditions today. As a

storm approaches from the south, clouds are forecast to

increase in much of this swath, however. That storm is

forecast to affect a large zone from the southern Rockies

and Plains to the central Gulf coast. Rain is expected to

ramp up to the point of initiating or aggravating flooding

over the lower Mississippi Valley. Meanwhile, locally heavy

snow will spread from the southern Rockies to the central

and southern High Plains with a pocket of ice or a wintry

mix from north-central Texas to southwestern Missouri. Rain

showers will occur in the Florida Peninsula. Most areas from

Montana to California will be dry and chilly, while rain and

snow return to the coastal Northwest.
