ATLANTA, GA. (AP) - A judge has sentenced teenager to 20 years in prison for stabbing his grandmother more than 50 times to death inside a Georgia home in 2014.
Local news media report that 16-year-old Charles Price III pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Wednesday in the death of 76-year-old Mary Price. He was at the age of 14 when he stabbed his grandmother 57 times on April 18, 2014, and went to Therrell High School in Atlanta covered in blood.
Prosecutors say his grandmother was upset with him because he missed the school bus.
The teenager was originally charged with murder. But after doctors determined he was suicidal at the time and suffered from severe depression anxiety, the charges were reduced to voluntary manslaughter.
He was also given five years of probation.
