COLQUITT, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a southwest Georgia sheriff faces charges of selling stolen guns.
U.S. Attorney G.F. "Pete" Peterman III said in a news release that FBI agents on Friday arrested Miller County Sheriff Shane Rathel. He's charged with two counts of selling a stolen firearm.
It was not immediately clear whether Rathel had an attorney who could comment.
Court documents say Rathel took three guns that were turned over to him by a man who was ordered to surrender them as a condition of his bond in an aggravated assault, battery and reckless conduct case.
The statement says Rathel pawned two of the guns for $600 and sold the third for $200.
Rathel faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each of two counts.
