ATLANTA (AP) — Southern Co. (SO) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $282 million.
On a per-share basis, the Atlanta-based company said it had profit of 27 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 25 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 24 cents per share.
The power company posted revenue of $5.34 billion in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $2.24 billion, or $2.18 per share. Revenue was reported as $23.5 billion.
Southern Co. shares have risen 11 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 11 percent. The stock has increased 11 percent in the last 12 months.
