Police: Man Charged with Fatally Beating Father with Crowbar

Posted

BUFORD, Ga. (AP) - A man is accused of killing his father with a crowbar in suburban Atlanta.

Gwinnett County police tell media outlets that 40-year-old Joseph Allen Cook was arrested Wednesday on murder and aggravated assault charges.

Police Cpl. Michele Pihera says the suspect was arguing with 68-year-old Larry Cook in the driveway of the family's home in Buford.

That argument escalated, and police say the suspect began beating his father with the crowbar.

A neighbor witnessed the attacked and called police.

Investigators say Larry Cook died from blunt force trauma. They say the suspect then went inside the home and told his stepmother what he had done.

While in police custody, Pihera says Joseph Cook assaulted an officer, who is being treated for facial injuries.

It's unclear if he has an attorney.
