CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida police officer shot and wounded a man who authorities say barricaded himself inside a house and then pointed a gun at the officer.
The Miami Herald reports that the shooting happened Monday afternoon in Coral Springs.
Sgt. Carla Kmiotek says officers went to a home after a relative reported an armed man had barricaded himself in a bedroom. She said a SWAT team and negotiators responded but the man fired at them through the door. She says officers still tried to talk the man out but he pointed a gun out a window at an officer, who shot him once.
Kmiotek said the man was alert when taken to the hospital. No charges were immediately filed.
