TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida legislators are poised this week to pass a much smaller package of tax cuts than proposed by Gov. Rick Scott or House Republicans.
One tax cut falling by the wayside is a plan for a 10-day back to school sales tax holiday. Instead legislators are likely to approve a three-day holiday in August where residents can purchase clothes tax-free.
A Senate committee approved a bill Monday that authorizes roughly $75 million in tax cuts. The bill (HB 7109) came out of budget negotiations between House and Senate leaders.
Scott initially wanted $600 million in tax cuts, while the House approved a $300 million tax cut package.
Property owners, however, are likely to get a break on school property taxes in the coming year due to the budget deal.
