TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee housing community is holding its grand opening today, to officially welcome residents, just in time for the holidays.

The Dwellings is a tiny homes community intentionally designed to be a housing solution for those who are financially strapped or socially disadvantaged.

The community offers homes in three sizes ranging from 220 to 410 feet. These homes are high tech too.

Each one comes with fiber optic internet, smart locks, smart lighting, voice-activated technology and smart meters to help residents monitor their use of power and, ultimately, keep their monthly expenses low.

According to community officials, when all phases are complete, the community will feature: a group dining hall, education and training rooms, a community garden, common laundry facilities, and an on-site case manager to connect residents with support services and other necessary resources.
