AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Commissioners have voted to fire the executive director of Augusta Regional Airport.
The Augusta Aviation Commission terminated Roy Williams during a meeting Tuesday.
Commission Chairman Cedric Johnson says officials want to take the airport in a different direction, but he refused to elaborate on the firing.
The Augusta Chronicle reports Williams will receive six months of salary and benefits under his $150,000-a-year contract. That's because he was fired without cause.
Williams had been at the airport less than a year. Commissioners will negotiate a contract with a former airport director to return on an interim basis.
