JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A $7 million gift from alumni to the University of North Florida will allow the school to create a new college for honors students.

UNF President John Delaney said the gift is the largest single amount ever donated to the university.

The donation made by alumni Ann and David Hicks allows UNF to open its sixth college, providing enrichment programs and eventually a dorm for 600 honors program students.

The Florida Times-Union reported that Delaney said the incoming fall freshman class is the strongest ever, with an overall grade point average of 4.05.

Money will also fund a fellowship program for undergraduate research and a study abroad program for about 60 students.
