COCHRAN, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man at an off-campus party near Middle Georgia State University in Cochran.
The Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/2cOzclR) that gunshots early Friday morning led partygoers to take cover. Police say the shots struck a man in his 20s, who later died on the way to a hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man killed as 24-year-old Devonte Raqualle Johnson of East Dublin, Georgia.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Scott Whitley said there's no indication the slain man ever attended the college.
University officials said in a statement that the campus was placed on lockdown in the early morning hours Friday. They later lifted the lockdown before dawn, saying the suspect was not believed to be on campus.
