ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A man who killed a 10-year-old girl in a central Florida hit-and-run crash has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
The Orlando Sentinel ((https://goo.gl/xjv0ij) ) reports that 42-year-old Lastevie Howard was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty last month to leaving the scene of a crash with a death and a crash with great bodily injury.
Aubrey Clark and Jordan El-Ouadi were riding their bikes home from Citrus Elementary School in Ocoee in January 2015 when authorities say Howard pulled out of a parking lot, hopped a curb and hit the children. Both children were hospitalized, and Clark later died.
Howard initially fled the scene after the crash, but his attorneys say he returned two minutes later after overcoming his panic. Other witnesses said it took 15 minutes.
