AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A 60-year-old man has pleaded guilty to trying to kill his wife and then slaying a 75-year-old man who lived with the couple.

Media outlets report Richard Ouzts of Hephzibah was sentenced to life in prison plus five years in Richmond County Superior Court Thursday after pleading guilty to murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Prosecutors said Deborah Ouzts, Richard Ouzts' wife, was able to escape her husbands' attack upon being shot twice and stabbed in the throat on March 15. Bobby Shue died after being shot and stabbed in the attack.

The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1Nwpavo ) reports Ouzts' defense attorney Alicia Lecroy says her client bought methamphetamine shortly before the attack. Richard Ouzts said he was ashamed of himself for the attack.
