BUFORD, Ga. (AP) - A man who was pulled by rescue crews from Lake Lanier has died.

Gwinnett fire spokesman Tommy Rutledge tells local media that agencies received a call about a possible drowning Saturday afternoon at Buford Dam Park.

Responders found the man, later identified as 48-year-old Arsenio Urbano Santiago of Atlanta, unresponsive under about 8 feet of water at the bottom of the lake. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Santiago died later that evening.

Rutledge said that according to witnesses, Santiago had been swimming in an area that was just past the designated swimming line. He called the drowning a "tragic accident."
