ATLANTA (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ') was named The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player after throwing for 50 touchdowns and 5,097 yards. The second-year player led the Chiefs to their first AFC championship game appearance since the 1993 season. Mahomes received 41 votes of 50 votes and also came away with the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.
ATLANTA (AP) — Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year after leading the NFL with 20 1/2 sacks, the most ever by a player at his position. Saquon (SAY'-kwahn) Barkley is the Offensive Rookie of the Year after rushing for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns for the New York Giants. Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard is the Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Chicago's Matt Nagy (NAY'-gee) is the Coach of the Year.
ATLANTA (AP) — Tight end Tony Gonzalez, cornerback Champ Bailey and safety Ed Reed have been voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in their first year as nominees. Joining the trio will be defensive back Ty Law and center Kevin Mawae (mah-WY'), each of whom were in their third year as finalists. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen (BOH'-lehn) and Cowboys and NFL executive Gil Brandt, each made it in the contributor category, while the senior selection was former Chiefs defensive back Johnny Robinson.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Klay Thompson returned from a one-game absence with an illness to score 28 points in the Golden State Warriors' 115-101 downing of the Lakers. DeMarcus Cousins contributed his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin Durant added 21 points and 11 of the Warriors' 31 assists. Los Angeles was without LeBron James, who was given the night off after playing Thursday for the first time in 18 games.
