LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The last of Arkansas' lethal injection drugs has expired, and legislators are expected to consider changes to state law that officials hope will allow them to resume executions nearly two years after the state put four inmates to death over an eight-day period.
Arkansas' supply of midazolam, a sedative used in its lethal injection process, expired on Thursday. The state's other two lethal injection drugs expired last year.
Arkansas doesn't have any executions scheduled, and prison officials last year said they wouldn't search for any new drugs until a law keeping the source of drugs secret was expanded to cover manufacturers. Attorney General Leslie Rutledge says her office is working on that legislation.
Arkansas' Supreme Court has said the state's drug secrecy law doesn't specifically prevent manufacturers from being identified.
