JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two men fatally shot a Jacksonville homeowner when he walked in on them as they were robbing his house.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Sgt. Jay Farhat tells local news outlets the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday in a quiet subdivision. He says 50-year-old Kyle Simpson appears to have been met by the would-be robbers as he entered his home after work.
Investigators say there were signs of forced entry but no evidence of a struggle inside the home.
Farhat says neighbors heard gunshots and a saw a black SUV leaving the neighborhood Monday afternoon. A neighbor told investigators she heard four of five gunshots but thought it was a neighbor scaring geese away.
Police believe the suspects may have committed multiple burglaries in the area on Sunday and Monday.
