VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) - A group dedicated to preserving the history of one South Georgia community is celebrating a big milestone.
The Lowndes County Historical Society marks its 50th anniversary Saturday. The organization operates a museum dedicated to local history in Valdosta, where it was founded in 1967.
The Valdosta Daily Times reports the historical society's Saturday celebration includes a toast with "Georgia champagne" - known more commonly as Coca-Cola. The toast will coincide with a presentation at the museum by Larry Jorgensen, author of the book "The Coca-Cola Trail: People and Places in the History of Coca-Cola."
Valdosta was an early bottling site for Coca-Cola.
