TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott says more work needs to be done to make sure students are graduating with degrees that could lead to jobs.
The Republican governor who once criticized anthropology majors is holding a "Degrees to Jobs" summit later this month in Orlando. Scott said in an announcement on Thursday that he wants education officials and business leaders to discuss how to make sure students are getting high-paying jobs once they finish college.
The two-day event will be held at Universal Orlando. Florida State University head football Coach Jimbo Fisher, University of Florida head football coach Jim McElwain, and University of Miami head football coach Mark Richt have agreed to participate in a panel on leadership and teambuilding.
Scott made headlines in 2011 when he questioned why the state was paying for anthropology majors.
