Billionaire Jeff Greene joins race for Florida governor

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida billionaire Jeff Greene says he's willing to spend whatever it takes, even as much as $200 million, in his campaign for governor.

Greene told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the difference in the last two governor's races is that Republican Rick Scott was able to spend tens of millions of dollars of his own money and even then barely won.

Greene spent $30 million on an unsuccessful 2010 U.S. Senate run but said he is coming to the governor's race with a new perspective. Back then, he was a new dad in a young marriage and was dogged by media portraying him as a wealthy party boy. Now he has three sons, has coached youth baseball and has started a private school.

He said despite his wealth, he came from a humble upbringing and understands middle-class struggles.
