SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Savannah fire officials are investigating a fire that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl and injured her grandparents.

Savannah fire spokesman Mark Keller said the blaze was reported around 1 a.m. Tuesday, when fire crews found a kitchen fire with a person still inside the kitchen area.

Keller said in a statement that firefighters quickly removed the victim from the house and began CPR. He said she was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries. Her name wasn't immediately released, but authorities said she lived at the home that caught fire.

Authorities said the girl's 62-year-old grandmother was taken to a local hospital and later flown to an Augusta burn center. The grandfather, 51, received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
