DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Police in Georgia say a 12-year-old boy crossing a roadway was struck by three vehicles and later died.

News outlets report that Gianni Salazar was crossing the Gwinnett County road Tuesday around 7 p.m. when he was hit by the vehicles.

The 12-year-old boy from Duluth died at a hospital after being taken there with serious injuries. Police say Salazar was not walking in a crosswalk.

Police say the drivers of the three cars remained at the scene and aren't facing any criminal charges. Department spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera says the lack of charges are due in part to Salazar not using the crosswalk. She says they had no expectation that a pedestrian would be crossing.
