...PATCHY FOG REPORTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE COASTAL WATERS...
The Savannah pilot boat recently reported fog just off the Chatham
County coast, and area web cams show low clouds lowering to fog
along portions of the coast this morning. Fog is expected to
become trapped within the stable air across the nearshore Georgia
waters and the southern South Carolina waters off the Beaufort
County coast. Visibilities will likely range between 1 and 3
miles, but the fog could become more widespread and dense. If so,
Dense Fog Advisories will be needed. Fog will persist at least
through midday, but could last through today and into tonight.
Also, the fog could eventually spread north and northeastward
with time, impacting all of the southeast Georgia and southeast
South Carolina coastal waters.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Mariners are urged to navigate with extreme care. If you must
navigate in these conditions, proceed with caution. Use proper
fog signals, including fog horns. Make sure all navigational
running lights are on.
Please relay any reports of sea fog to the Charleston or Tybee
Island Coast Guard stations and ask them to immediately forward
your report to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
