SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a former Chatham County Probate Court clerk to six years in prison for stealing from the court.
The Savannah Morning News reports that 61-year-old Kim Birge was sentenced Friday and ordered to make restitution of more than $751,000. Birge will have until Nov. 20 to report to a federal facility.
Birge pleaded guilty on July 31 to stealing $232,000 from the court as part of a scheme in which the government said she stole more than $750,000 over a three-year period.
U.S. District Judge William T. Moore Jr. also ordered Birge to serve three years supervised release after completion of her custody term, but imposed no fine citing her inability to pay.
