ATLANTA, GA. (AP) - A civil rights activist and former Georgia state lawmaker has been told to report to federal prison next month.
Court records show the U.S. Marshals Service last week sent a notice to Tyrone Brooks ordering him to report to the federal penitentiary in Atlanta at noon on Feb. 16.
The Atlanta Democrat pleaded guilty in April to one count of filing a false tax document and no contest to five counts of mail and wire fraud.
U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg in November sentenced Brooks to serve a year and a day in prison followed by two years of supervised release plus community service.
Prosecutors accused Brooks of deliberately defrauding charitable donors out of more than $1 million. A restitution hearing is set for Feb. 4.
