ATLANTA (AP) - A former East Point police officer got life in prison and another got 18 months for the death of a man who died after they used their stun guns on him.
Local media report Marcus Eberhart was sentenced Wednesday to serve life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. He was convicted Friday of felony murder and aggravated assault in the April 2014 death of Gregory Towns Jr. The judge also gave him a five-year sentence for violating his oath of office.
Howard Weems got a five-year sentence with 18 months to serve in prison for involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct charges. The judge ordered Weems to speak to at least 10 police agencies once he's out on probation about the dangers of using a shock device.
