TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Andrew Gillum has picked up endorsements, money and plenty of national attention after his surprising victory in this week's Democratic gubernatorial primary.
But as the Tallahassee mayor mounts his bid to become Florida's first black governor, he already is coming under swift attack from Republican opponents who are trying to use a slow-moving corruption investigation into Tallahassee city government to portray Gillum as untrustworthy.
The 39-year-old Gillum contends he is ready for the onslaught of attacks. He says he has spoken to the FBI and is not the focus of the agency's investigation.
