JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida sheriff's officer fired after his beating of a handcuffed woman was caught on video will not face felony charges in the case.
The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1ZE4Xf9 ) reports Jacksonville Sheriff's officer Akinyemi Borisade faces one count of simple battery, a misdemeanor.
Video shows Borisade hitting 31-year-old Mayra Martinez in the processing area of the county jail. Martinez had kicked the officer.
Another video shot during her arrest shows Martinez being struck several times by officers. Police say they were called after Martinez refused to leave a club when asked.
Assistant State Attorney Rich Mantei says evidence didn't justify felony charges.
Martinez was also charged in the case. She has pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest with violence, trespassing and misdemeanor battery.
