TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty is resigning.
McCarty said Tuesday that he is quitting to pursue other unspecified opportunities. He said Gov. Rick Scott did not ask him to resign.
McCarty has been the state's top insurance regulator since 2003. His resignation takes effect May 2.
His successor will be appointed by Scott and the elected cabinet -- Attorney General Pam Bondi, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.
