ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a central Florida gas station employee was shot in the torso when he tried to stop an armed robbery.
Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Yuri Melich tells the Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2aNaiBF ) a man wearing a hoodie demanded money from the clerk at a Citgo gas station Tuesday night. When the man jumped over the counter to take the money, another employee tried to "disable him" by hitting him with a bottle.
The would-be robber fired his gun, hitting the intervening employee in the torso.
Melich says the man ran from the gas station and likely left in a vehicle.
The 59-year-old employee was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was upgraded to stable condition.
Deputies are searching for the suspect.
