OAKLAND PARK, FL. (AP) - A South Florida deputy has shot and killed a man outside an apartment complex after authorities say the man fled two traffic stops and then reached for a gun.
Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright says the man was taken to a local hospital Tuesday afternoon and later died.
Authorities say deputies first tried to pull over the man on Interstate 95 around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and then again in Oakland Park around 11:30 a.m. The suspect was spotted a third time around 2 p.m. near the Floranada Apartments, where authorities believe the suspect lived.
When a detective approached the driver, authorities say the suspect reached for gun. An ensuing struggle ended with the detective shooting the man.
The names of the suspect and detective weren't immediately released.
