TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A correctional officer has been arrested, accused of pulling a shotgun on a victim after getting into an argument over a pair of shoes.
According to a probable cause document, police were called to the Dollar General on West Brevard Street on Wednesday about an aggravated assault with a firearm.
When they arrived, the victim told them that he and Demetrius Williams had gotten into an argument over a pair of shoes.
The victim told officer that the shoes in question had been stolen by one of Williams' friends. He said Williams had previously promised to reimburse the victim, but failed to do so.
During the argument, documents say, Williams went to his car and brought back a shotgun, aiming it at the victim. However, the victim says Williams didn't shoot him and walked back to his car. Williams then drove away.
Minutes later, the victim says that Williams sent messages and video to him via Facebook. Officers say that in one of the messages to the victim, Williams wrote, "Boy, I spared your life."
During the investigation, officers learned that Williams was employed as a correctional officer by the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC).
Williams was arrested the next day and charged with aggravated assault.
WTXL reached out to FDOC and they issued this statement regarding the incident:
"This Department expects the highest degree of professionalism and integrity from our officers both on and off duty. We are appalled by this officer’s actions and are moving towards his immediate termination."
