PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two swimmers drowned in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida within hours of each other in separate incidents.

In a Panama City News Herald report , Panama City Beach Police officials said 15-year-old Tyler Spann of Lexington, Tennessee, was pronounced dead at a hospital after being pulled from the surf around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Spann had become distressed while swimming in the waters behind a resort.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office said a 60-year-old man was pronounced dead on the white sands behind a different resort about 3 miles (5 kilometers) down the beach about three hours later. The man's name was not released.

The deaths bring the total number of gulf-related fatalities this year to eight. Seven of those deaths have been reported since May 19.
