Woman and Son Die in Columbus House Fire

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a woman and her adult son have died in a house fire in Columbus.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan tells The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (http://bit.ly/1M8KDA1) that both were pronounced dead of accidental smoke inhalation shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Bryan identified the victims as 88-year-old Jettie M. Potts; and her son, 64-year-old Smedley Potts.

Columbus Fire Marshal Ricky Shores said firefighters were called to the home just before 5 a.m. Wednesday. He said there was heavy smoke when fire units arrived.

Shores said investigators had not yet determined what led to the blaze.
