GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Federal authorities say a 40-year-old man from Lantana, Florida, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for transporting drug money through Mississippi and other states.
The Justice Department says Inocensio Villareal (in-ah-SEN'-see-oh vee-ah-reh-AHL') had been stopped by law enforcement officers in Jackson County in June of 2013.
When they searched his van, officers found wrapped bundles containing a total of $414,450 in cash. Investigators said he had been traveling through Texas, Georgia and Mississippi, transporting money as part of a drug trafficking organization.
He was sentenced Wednesday in Gulfport.
The department said the case was investigated by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrea Jones and Stan Harris.
