CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — A man already charged with killing a University of Virginia student is due in court for arraignment on charges of abducting and murdering a Virginia Tech student.
Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr.'s hearing is set for Wednesday afternoon in Albemarle County Circuit Court.
The county's chief prosecutor said Tuesday that a grand jury indicted 33-year-old Matthew in the death of 20-year-old Morgan Harrington, who disappeared after attending an Oct. 17, 2009, Metallica concert in Charlottesville. Her remains were found in January 2010 in a hayfield about 6 miles away. Matthew is charged with first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile.
Authorities say that forensic evidence linked Matthew to Harrington but that they won't give details.
Matthew also is charged with capital murder in the September 2014 disappearance and death of University of Virginia student 18-year-old Hannah Graham.
In June, Matthew was convicted of sexually assaulting and attempting to kill a woman in Fairfax County. Sentencing is set for Oct. 2.
