IMMOKALEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol says two people died when their vehicle hit a tree as a sheriff's deputy was trying to stop them.
The crash happened late Tuesday night in Immokalee in southwest Florida.
An incident report says 21-year-old Damian Raheem Rivera and 24-year-old Amy Sabrina Manzano were pronounced dead at the scene.
The report doesn't say why the Collier County Sheriff's deputy was trying to stop the 2001 Volvo. Troopers say the deputy was in a marked sheriff's cruiser with its emergency equipment activated.
Troopers say the Volvo failed to negotiate a curve and hit a tree before rotating and hitting a concrete power pole.
The crash remains under investigation.
