Democratic Party official mulls Graham challenge in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A top official with the Democratic National Committee says he feels he has the national connections and fundraising ability to mount a challenge to Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

DNC associate chairman Jaime Harrison told The Associated Press on Thursday he is launching an exploratory committee to challenge the Republican.

The 43-year-old Harrison served as chairman of South Carolina's Democratic Party in the 2016 cycle. He tells the AP he has the knowhow and network to raise the out-of-state cash needed to take on Graham, who is seeking his fourth term in 2020 and may face primary opposition of his own.

Harrison says he believes a successful candidate may need $10 million to win next year's race. Graham already has more than $3 million in his coffers.
