DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A DeKalb County jury has convicted a man in the death of his fiancee after he told police she had committed suicide.

The DeKalb County district attorney's office said a jury on Monday found 31-year-old Antione Hood guilty in the February 2015 shooting death of 28-year-old Candace McGriff.

Hood called 911 and reported that McGriff shot herself when he tried breaking up with her. Police found her shot in the chest in the couple's bedroom in Lithonia.

Prosecutors said a forensic investigator with the medical examiner's office testified at trial that that McGriff did not fire the fatal shot.

Hood will be sentenced at a later date.

McGriff was a physical education teacher at C.J. Hicks Elementary in Conyers.
