FRUITLAND PARK, FL. (AP) - A central Florida police K-9 is suspended from duty after authorities say it attacked a 7-year-old girl.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office reports that Doki was running around Wildwood police Officer Douglas Pelton's backyard Sunday evening when the neighbor girl walked up to the brush-covered fence and reached out to pet Belgian Malinois. The dog reportedly jumped the fence and attacked her.

Pelton said he immediately jumped after the dog and pulled it off the girl. The girl's mother told a 911 operator that the girl was bleeding from her neck.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the girl was taken to a nearby hospital. Her wounds weren't considered life-threatening.

Wildwood police officials say Doki has been with the department for about a year. There were no records of previous aggressive incidents involving the dog.
