TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Wildlife authorities have been unable to find an alligator that attacked a black Labrador retriever named Haze after it chased a bird into the Hillsborough River in a Tampa park.
Eve Morehead says her 3-year-old, 75-pound dog never resurfaced after being dragged underwater Sunday in Rowlett Park.
Morehead and NaTausha Sabin-Lee were walking the dog when Haze bolted into the water, getting its leash caught on a rock.
Sabin-Lee tells The Tampa Tribune that she watched an alligator at least 6 feet long roll over with Haze twice in the water.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Gary Morse says there are several large alligators in the area, and it's unlikely that trappers will be able to find the one that attacked Haze.
