MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — An Atlanta-area city council is set to consider banning shareable electric scooters.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports the Marietta city council is expected to approve the ban at its meeting Wednesday. Mayor Steve Tumlin says the electric scooters would clash with the city's outdoor displays and dining tables.
Several companies provide such scooters, which are used through apps. The scooters allow riders to grab a scooter and go, leaving the scooter wherever the rider happens to get off.
Marietta economic development project manager Alvin Huff says the scooters can go up to 15 mph (24 kph), which he says is too fast for the city's trail system. Councilman Johnny Walker says he supports the ban because he doesn't want to see abandoned scooters littering sidewalks.
