MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tropical Storm Edouard has been slowly gaining strength Friday, a trend that is expected to continue through the weekend.

The storm, as of late Friday afternoon, had highest winds of 45 mph and was located over 1,200 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.  Edouard is moving northwest at 13 mph.

The movement to the northwest is forecast to continue for another couple of days before curving to the north, and then northeast, early next week.  This path will keep Edouard safely away from any land masses during the next five days.

Gradual strengthening is set to occur as the storm works with warm ocean water temperatures and adequate amounts of moisture contained in the low-pressure circulation.
