WASHINGTON, D.C. (CNN) -- The Department of Transportation has fined Southwest Airlines $200,000 for bad fare sale practices.

Officials say the airline promoted fares for "$100 or less" for travel in February, but didn't have enough seats available in a number of cities.

Southwest also advertises $66 one-way fares from Dallas to Branson, Missouri in March, but didn't have seats available at that price.

The department says Southwest "engaged in prohibited unfair and deceptive practices" in both cases.
