TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Courtesy: TCC Athletics) – Eboni Watts and Lawriell Wilson scored 20 points each to lead NJCAA Region 8 No. 6 Tallahassee Community College to a 75-67 win over No. 3 Daytona State College on Tuesday evening in the Eagles’ home opener.

The win improved Tallahassee’s record to 3-0 on the young season while Daytona State dropped to 1-1.

Tuesday’s game featured seven ties and 14 lead changes, most of which came during the first two quarters of play.

The Falcons broke a 23-all tie with seven unanswered points and took a 34-27 lead into the final 60 seconds of the half, but the Eagles closed on a strong note to tighten things up.

Three baskets in the final 40 seconds, the last by Wilson with 10 seconds remaining brought the Eagles to within a point, 34-33, at the intermission.

Tallahassee made the decisive run over a five-plus minute span to close the third and open the fourth. Trailing 50-47, a pair of free throws by Watts ignited a 15-2 run. Sabrina Banks capped the surge with a bucket that put the Eagles in front, 62-52 – their largest lead of the night – with 7:31 left in the game.

The Falcons never got closer than five the rest of the way.

In addition to Watts and Wilson, Banks reached double-figures, scoring 12 points and added 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Stephania Oramas led Daytona State with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Jazland Rollins added 12.

Tallahassee will return to action November 11 when it hosts the third annual Veterans Day Classic. The Eagles will play Fort Benning (Ga.) Military Academy at 3 p.m. in a contest that will go down as a scrimmage. Lincoln High School and Florida High will play in JV and varsity girls action at 1 and 5 p.m., respectively.
