Rattlers fall in home finale 5-4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M (12-19, 8-7 MEAC) took a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, but fell 5-4 to North Florida (25-11, 4-2 A-Sun) in the home finale at Moore-Kittles Field on Wednesday. Kendal Weeks, who started the game at third based, came in as a reliever in the sixth inning and gave up the three runs that tied that game at 4-4. Rattler reliever Cleveland Westbrook (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up one unearned run in the seventh inning.

Marlon Gibbs hit his first home run of the season as he went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Peter Jackson also had two hits (2-for-3) for the FAMU offense.

UNF reliever Alex Smith (4-1) picked up the win after working 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Corbin Olmstead pitched the final 1.1 innings for his fifth save of the season.

Florida A&M hits the road this weekend as they face Savannah State. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM and game three on Sunday is also scheduled for a 1:00 PM first pitch.
