TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 12/16 Florida State men’s tennis team (14-1) remained unbeaten at home on Saturday as they took down both New Orleans and Liberty 4-0.

“I think it is good that we got a lot of people the opportunity to play today,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We had two shutouts, which is always good and we did not drop any sets in doubles.”

“We are 14-1 and off to a great start but now the real meat of our season starts with ACC teams coming through as part of the toughest conference in the country,” said Hultquist. “We now have to turn the page and move on to our ACC schedule.”

In the first match of the day the Seminoles dominated the doubles point as they won 6-1 on court three and 6-2 on court two in route to their 11th doubles point of the season. Sophomore Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar and freshman Chase Wood captured the Noles’ first doubles win on court three and their first win as a pair this season. The duo won 6-1 and earned match point on a great serve down the middle by Wood. Sophomore Alex Knaff and freshman Sebastian Arcila earned their first doubles win together as well as they won 6-2 on court two.

Florida State dominated singles play as well as they grabbed all six first sets and won four of them 6-1. Arcila gave the Garnet and Gold a 2-0 lead as he made quick work on court five winning 6-1, 6-2. Bhullar quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win of his on court three. Senior Terrell Whitehurst earned his team high tying third match-clinching win on court four, 6-1, 6-3, to wrap things up for Florida State.

In the second match of the day, Florida State picked up right where they left off. Junior Aziz Dougaz and redshirt senior Lucas Poullain were the first to finish in doubles, earning a 6-2 win on court one, and their first doubles win as a pair this season. They were quickly followed by the duo of Knaff and Arcila who won 6-2 as well on court three, winning their second match of the day. This marked the 12th doubles point of the season for FSU.

Arcila made quick work in singles in his second singles match just like he did in his first. He got off the court first after a 6-1, 6-0 win on court six. Courts one, two and five were all in a battle to see who would finish second. Bhullar was able to give the Garnet and Gold a 3-0 lead after a 6-0, 6-3 win on court five. Poullain clinched his second match for the Seminoles on court two with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

The Seminole will be back on the court next Friday as they head to Clemson to take on the Tigers.

“We pushed pretty hard the last couple weeks and now we have to prepare for ACC play,” said Hultquist. “Clemson is a much-improved team. We have to be ready for them on the road.”
